Research shows that young people who participate in the performing arts excel academically, socially, creatively and emotionally over their peers. And because at-risk students benefit to an exponential degree, SBCT is committed to a theatre arts education for all students.
Our education director will work with schools to develop their own programs, will help supplement school programs with specialists and unique opportunities, and will partner whenever theatre arts education is – or ought to be - a core value of the activity. Partnerships have included Logan Center, Casa de Amistad, and “The Big Read” program of the National Endowment for the Arts through Notre Dame.
SBCT classes and camps are taught by trained theatre artists, and we strive to scholarship as many deserving students as possible. Finally, the Kids4Kids productions provide a chance for students K-12 to perform, working under a creative team of theatre professionals. Whenever possible our Kids4Kids productions provide day-time school performances, so that school groups can experience live theatre at highly reduced rates. To deepen the learning opportunities, we provide curriculum-based study guides.
We look forward to more partnering opportunities. If you would like to contribute to our scholarship program, would like SBCT to help strengthen your school’s theatre arts learning, or have a question for our education director, call Sara Bartlett at 574-968-7496.
